A Morning Stroll






















I was up bright and early this morning, long before the sun. If this had been a work day I would swear that come Saturday, I'm sleeping in. I really enjoy the early morning when the rest of the world is still fast asleep, yet I rarely get to enjoy it because usually I am on my way into work. I was already out and about when the little Hummers began to buzz about, the feeders were almost empty so I made up some fresh sugar water and boy were they ready for it. I then took a little stroll around the garden, I noticed some things are beginning to look a little tired, and I think this year I want to take a few cuttings and try rooting them for next spring. I am really pleased with the performance of several annuals that I tried out this year.























Sutera - Giant Snowflake, this little flower really outdid itself, here it is planted with Purslane. It however is only an annual in zone 7.


Here Purple Queen is planted with Lantana, a combo I will repeat more of next year.




Spider Lily, and I have no idea where they came from. Two years ago they sprang up from nowhere, in two different areas of the garden! It's a mystery. I think they are beautiful.

I love taking a morning stroll through my garden while the rest of the family is asleep. That is my quiet time, my time to reflect about the day ahed. Your combinations are beautiful. Spiderlily is so pretty at this time of the year.

The red spider lilies do have a tendency to pop up unannounced - I'm not sure how they do that either. :)

You have a lovely garden and blog. I LOVE that purple queen/lantana combo. Definitely need to try that myself. I know Skeeter will like it too. I also adore your shed. How I wish mine looked like that. Hope you are getting all your holes dug for those new buys. You sound like a gardener like me-love the Lowes clearance racks! Happy gardening!

Today is a regular off day for me so I decided to head on over to Blotanical and see whats been going on. I have met so many kind gardeners there, and everyone has something to share, so many helpful ideas and tips to use in the garden. It seems every day several more new garden blogs appear, and this is a good thing. It means that people are searching for something more, that they feel a desire to get back to nature and all that this wonderful earth offers us. The Garden Journal

I began keeping a garden journal several years ago, It was just a regular journal with blank pages. I kept a record of my purchases and receipts. I noted rain dates and frost dates. I refer back to it from time to time. I often forget about plants that have gone dormant, until in the spring when I get out digging around and my spade strikes a bulb. Then I remember. A journal helps me with that as well. I found a wonderful journal from Lee Valley Tools, and my mother surprised me with it for my birthday! ( I just haven't had time to post about it. shhh ) , Any howsey, it is a beautifully crafted 10 yr journal with 541 pages. It has no pre printed years, so you can begin it at any time. I was so thrilled with it, I just had to share .
